Surbiton Men bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Sevenoaks to beat Holcombe 7-4 in their second match on Saturday at the Jaffa Super Sixes Premier Division tournament in Bromsgrove School.
Holcombe broke the deadlock in the eighth minute courtesy of Ross Hetem, but three goals in four minutes put Surbiton in the ascendancy. Alan Forsyth converted a penalty corner in the 12th minute, Niall Stott gave Surbiton the lead two minutes later and Dave Beckett added a third on the quarter-hour. Holcombe’s prolific goalscorer, Nick Bandurak reduced the deficit two minutes before the interval when Surbiton led 3-2.
Richard Lane equalised for Holcombe three minutes before half time, then the scoring stopped until a five goal burst in the last nine minutes.
Forsyth gave Surbiton a 4-3 lead in the 31st minute, only for Bandurak to level in the 36th minute. Surbiton finally broke Holcombe’s shackles in the 38th minute when Forsyth completed his hat-trick seconds after William Marshall gave Surbiton the lead once again. Forsyth scored his fourth goal of the game in the last minute to put the icing on Surbiton’s cake.
