Scotland Women won their first match at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games beating Ghana 5-0 on Monday.
Surbiton’s Robyn Collins opened the scoring in the 11th minute converting a penalty corner in off the left post in spectacular fashion. A minute later, Katie Robertson doubled the lead, scoring from just inside the circle. With a Scottish player going down in the circle, Robertson hesitated before making the shot, the goal confirmed after an umpire video referral.
Scotland still lead 2-0 at half time, but extended their lead in the 37th minute, Millie Brown deflecting the ball at the right post from a penalty corner. Seconds before the third quarter hooter, Amy Brodie scored Scotland’s fourth goal, but for the second time in the match there was video referral drama, this time to decide whether the ball had been in the circle when the shot was taken.
Two minutes into the final quarter, Nikki Alexander-Lloyd completed the scoring from open play to give Scotland an comprehensive victory.
Collins was in the Scottish starting lineup. Scotland complete their pool matches against Australia on Tuesday.
