Report written by Chris Gittens

With both teams missing key players, today’s EH Cup match provided a great opportunity for Surbiton to make use of its extended squad and to provide debuts for 3 more talented young players in Freya Gladstone, Zoe Allchurch and Fifi Robinson.

Surbiton started the game brightly and were rewarded with a penalty corner after only a couple of minutes. Georgie Twigg converted off a well worked routine. Atkinson added a second, again from a penalty corner, before Slough pulled one back  through Katie Jurdon after a lapse in defensive concentration from Surbiton. Goals from Susie Catlin and Steph Addison followed in a first half that Surbiton dominated.

The second half started in a more positive fashion for Slough with Surbiton starting to make a few poor decisions with the ball, resulting in turn overs and a scrappy 15 minutes for both sides. Surbiton managed to regain control, with Georgie Twigg’s composure on the ball in midfield beginning to help settle the side down. Surbiton finished the game strongly, creating several good opportunities in front of goal. Olivia Chilton and Hannah Denison both went close before Denison eventually scored to finish the game 5-1 to Surbiton.

Overall a very positive afternoon with good performances from a number of players including the three youngsters on debut, who did an excellent job.
