Surbiton Ladies, having returned to the top of the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division last weekend after their 2-0 home win over Holcombe, visit the University of Birmingham on Saturday (push back 1.15 pm).
The match will be played at the University of Birmingham, Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham B15 2TT.
When the teams met earlier this season at Sugden Road Surbiton won 1-0 thanks to Georgie Twigg’s 21st minute penalty corner.
Surbiton held a one goal better differential over Holcombe after that victory and go to the Second City with a slightly wider three goal differential over the Kent club.
Birmingham have struggled this year, needing a last minute equaliser to draw 2-2 at newly promoted Beeston on the opening day of the season. In spite of a 2-1 home win over Slough and a 2-2 draw at home to Buckingham, Birmingham have not been able to pull out another win and are in eighth place, a point ahead of ninth placed Slough.
Birmingham have drawn seven of their league games, the other five draws coming at home to Canterbury (1-1); at Bowdon Hightown (2-2); at home to Clifton Robinsons (2-2); at Canterbury (1-1) and at home to Slough (2-2).
Birmingham have drawn their last three league games. The defeat at Surbiton was their first defeat of the season followed by a 5-1 home defeat by Holcombe; 4-2 at Clifton Robinsons; 3-2 at home to East Grinstead and 3-1 at Holcombe.
Thirteen players have scored Birmingham’s twenty league goals this season with Catherine Ledesma heading the list on three goals. Amy Costello, Lauren Hunt, Flora Peel, Jo Turnbull and Lily Walker have all scored twice each. Aisling Madden became the latest player to score her first goal for Birmingham this season in last week’s 2-2 draw at Slough and she is joined by Amelia Andrew, Holly Hunt, Lydia Macdonell, Harriet Mitchell, Lily Owsley and Olivia Paige.
Elsewhere, Holcombe are at home to Slough; East Grinstead are at Beeston; Clifton Robinsons visit Bowdon Hightown and Buckingham host Canterbury.
