Surbiton Ladies aim to bounce back from last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Holcombe when they visit Canterbury on Saturday (push back 4 pm).

The game will be played at Polo Farm, Littlebourne Road, Canterbury CT3 4AF.

Canterbury have struggled this season and are the only team without a win in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division after Bowdon Hightown beat East Grinstead last weeked.

Canterbury have drawn three games this season, 2-2 at Bowdon Hightown, 1-1 at home to Slough and 1-1 at the University of Birmingham. Their other five games have seen them lose 1-0 at home to Clifton Robinsons, 2-1 at Holcombe, 4-0 at home to Buckingham, 5-0 at East Grinstead and 3-1 at home to Beeston last week.

Grace Balsdon has scored three of their six league goals with Nicki Ball, Aimee Plumb and Katie Williams scoring once each.

With the league regular season reaching the halfway point this weekend, Canterbury find themselves three points adrift at the bottom of the table. However they still have reason to be optimistic as they were bottom of the table last season with six matches to play, then won three and drew two of those games to not only avoid automatic relegation but also the Promotion Tournament, ending up in mid-table in sixth place.

Surbiton and Canterbury drew both their league encounters last season. On opening day, the teams drew 2-2 at Polo Farm

The return at Sugden Road saw Canterbury draw 1-1, the last of a run of four successive drawn games

Meanwhile, Surbiton will be aiming to keep Holcombe at bay after last week’s defeat saw their lead cut from six points to three. Holcombe travel to Beeston. Buckingham host Clifton Robinsons, East Grinstead travel to the University of Birmingham and Canterbury will be interested in the result between Slough and Bowdon Hightown, being played in Berkshire with both teams three points ahead of them in eighth and ninth place respectively.
