Surbiton Ladies make their longest trip of the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division season on Saturday when they travel to Altrincham to take on Bowdon Hightown (push back 1.45 pm).

Surbiton will hope to build on last weekend’s 3-2 win over the University of Birmingham, although there will be early concerns about the usually solid defence which has conceded two goals in each of its first two matches.

A last minute penalty corner conversion denied Surbiton all three points at Holcombe, whilst the division’s leading goalscorer, Erica Sanders notched a brace against the reigning champions last Saturday.

Bowdon Hightown, who maintained their top flight status via the Promotion Tournament, crashed 4-1 at the University of Birmingham on the opening day of the season before beating Leicester 2-0 at home last weekend.

Bowdon have lost Sally Walton to Conference West club, Olton & West Warwicks, but have found a potential scorer in Tara Melvin, who joined Bowdon during the summer and has scored in both league matches so far.

Surbiton’s Jo Hunter has also scored in her club’s first two league matches of the season, and will hope to help Surbiton to improve on their 1-1 draw in the North West last season.

Elsewhere, leaders, Clifton Robinsons will aim to maintain their 100 % record at third-placed East Grinstead. Second placed Holcombe visit Leicester.

The University of Birmingham, who dropped from top spot to fifth after losing at Sugden Road, host Reading, who are the only team without a point in the division.

Newly-promoted Slough face an intriguing encounter with Canterbury, who have lost several players this season and have an identical record to the Berkshire based club after two matches.
