Having finished third after the first weekend of the Jaffa Super 6s Division One tournament in Bristol last weekend, Surbiton Ladies head to the East Midlands and Nottingham Trent University for the second weekend.
Nottingham railway station was closed on Friday (12 Jan) due to a massive fire, and reopened on Saturday morning at 0445 with a limited train service (A report on the fire can be found here).
National Rail updates can be found here.
The address for those supporters wishing to travel is: Nottingham Trent University, NG11 8NS
Surbiton play the first match on both days, starting against Harleston Magpies, bottom of the table after losing all four matches in the first weekend, at 1030 on Saturday. Harleston avoided relegation last season by beating Surbiton in the last match of the tournament.
At 1530, Surbiton face Brooklands Poynton, who start the second weekend in seventh place with four points.
On Sunday, Surbiton have an early start against Sevenoaks with push back at 0900. The Kent club had an excellent first weekend and are second on eight points, a point ahead of Surbiton.
Surbiton complete their campaign at 1500 on Sunday against the University of Birmingham, aiming to make an immediate return to the top flight. Birmingham’s hopes took a jolt in the first weekend, losing 3-2 to Buckingham, the leaders with maximum points and a surprise 3-2 defeat to St. Albans, which gave the Hertfordshire club its only points of the weekend as they battle against relegation to Division Two.
With just five points separating second to eighth, there will be lot of jostling for position before the promotion and relegation issues are decided, but Buckingham are looking good for promotion back to the Premier Division after being relegated with Birmingham last season.
The Surbiton website will be updated over the weekend and more information about the tournament plus updates in real time can be found at the England Hockey Altius website here
