Surbiton Ladies will play in the Jaffa Super Sixes Premier Division for the second time in their history next season after sealing promotion with a 4-2 win over Gloucester City at Nottingham Trent University.

Surbiton needed just one point to win promotion but collected all three to not only earn their place in the top flight but return as Division One champions.

Captain Natalie Maclean scored the only goal of the first half. Lizzie Gittens doubled Surbiton’s lead two minutes into the second half from a penalty corner with Susie Catlin adding a third, also from a penalty corner with nine minutes remaining.

Maclean gave Surbiton a 4-0 lead in the 34th minute with Gloucester making a mini-comeback thanks to goals from Jess Thomas and Emily Rogers in the 38th and 39th minutes respectively.

Between them the strike force of Gittens and Maclean earned 15 of Surbiton’s 29 goals, Gittens finishing with eight goals compared with Maclean’s seven.

More information about the tournament can be found at the England Hockey Altius website

The fight for second place is likely to be between long term leaders Sutton Coldfield and Sevenoaks, although Harleston Magpies have an outside chance of promotion if Sutton Coldfield draw with Sevenoaks and Harleston beat Sutton Coldfield in the last match of the day.
