Surbiton Ladies are on the cusp of promotion from Jaffa Super Sixes Division One after a convincing 6-1 win over relegation threatened University of Birmingham in their penultimate match of the tournament.

Captain, Natalie Maclean opened the scoring for Surbiton in the fifth minute but her opposite number, Birmingham captain Lydia Macdonell equalised three minutes later.

Lizzie Gittens gave Surbiton a 3-1 half time lead with penalty corner conversions in the 13th and 15th minutes.

Maclean scored Surbiton’s fourth goal two minutes after the break, with Gittens completing her hat-trick with another penalty corner conversion in the 31st minute and Hannah Denison getting in on the act from open play three minutes from time.

Holding a four point lead over Sutton Coldfield, Surbiton can still be caught by both Harleston Magpies and Sevenoaks with six points separating the top four teams and their rivals all having two games to play.  However, Harleston play Sutton Coldfield in the last game of the day. By then Surbiton can clinch promotion and the Division One title with a win over Gloucester City in their last game at 12 noon.

The game against Gloucester City can be followed in real time at the England Hockey Altius website where more information about the tournament can also be found.
