Surbiton Ladies made a winning start to their Jaffa Super 6s Division One campaign in Bristol, coming from 2-0 down to beat St. Albans 6-3 on Saturday.

Last season, St. Albans won 4-3 and after 11 minutes they were on course for another victory, leading 2-0 after Amie Hone and Alexis Hamilton both scored from open play.

However, the comeback started soon after Surbiton took a timeout in the 12th minute. Darcy Bourne struck quickly to equalise with open play goals in the 13th and 16th minutes, Fifi Robinson adding a third a minute before the interval to give Surbiton a 3-2 half time lead.

With seven minutes to play, Surbiton still led 3-2, but Bourne completed her hat-trick with a penalty corner conversion and captain, Natalie Maclean also converted a penalty corner to extend Surbiton’s lead to 5-3.

Hone pulled a goal back for St. Albans with two minutes remaining, again from a penalty corner, but Ellie Tait, returning to Surbiton after a spell at Loughborough Students, sealed Surbiton’s win with an open play goal in the penultimate minute.

Surbiton play Beeston, promoted from Division 2, at 16 30 on Saturday.
