Surbiton Ladies made the perfect start to the second weekend of the Jaffa Super 6s Division One tournament at Nottingham Trent University, beating Harleston Magpies 4-0 to move up to second behind leaders Buckingham.

Surbiton’s new signings, Australian, Alessia Robinson, who captained Victoria Park Xavier HC in the Premier 1 tournament in Western Australia in 2017; and Anabel Herzsprung, a German player from Harvestehuder HC both made their senior indoor debuts after playing outdoors in Barcelona last weekend.

A much changed squad also saw Autumn Brown take over the captain’s armband from Natalie Maclean, with Hannah Birchall coming into the squad and Grace Lawes in goal.

Darcy Bourne is with Wellington College U16 Girls; Ella Burnley with St. George’s College U16 Girls and Fifi Robinson with Cranleigh U18 Girls, all competing in the Schools Super 6s tournament at Bromsgrove School.

Harleston, bottom of the table after losing all four games in the first weekend, fell behind in the third minute, Lizzie Gittens converting a penalty corner. However, Surbiton still led 1-0 at half time and had to wait until the 28th minute to extend their lead.

Herzsprung scored from open play on her debut, with Birchall also on target in the 34th minute to give Surbiton a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Gittens put the icing on the cake with a second penalty corner conversion in the penultimate minute, to lift Surbiton into second place on ten points, with third placed Sevenoaks due to play the leaders, Buckingham in their first match of the weekend.

Surbiton play Brooklands Poynton at 1530 on Saturday afternoon.
