Surbiton Ladies are at home to the University of Birmingham in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday (push back 1 pm at Sugden Road).

Entrance for this game is by programme and season tickets (£25 for the season) will be available to buy on the gate.

The top four teams in the division are still unbeaten after three rounds of matches, with Surbiton becoming the last team to lose their one hundred per cent record when they were held to a 1-1 draw at East Grinstead last Saturday.

Holcombe’s win at Clifton Robinsons has put Surbiton under pressure with Surbiton and Holcombe only separated due to Surbiton having a one goal superior goal difference with both teams on seven points.

Birmingham are two points behind, in third, level with fourth placed Buckingham on points but only ahead because they have scored one more goal than Buckingham.

Therefore both Surbiton and Birmingham will have something to play for even at this early part of the season as the table continues to take shape.

This time last season, Surbiton were away to Birmingham where they lost 3-1

In the return at Sugden Road, Surbiton won 2-1

Three of the goalscorers in the match at Birmingham have moved on with Erica Sanders having transferred to Surbiton and Alice Wills moving to Holcombe, whilst Beckie Middleton left Sugden Road after the EuroHockey Club Cup.

This season, Birmingham rescued a point on the opening day in a 2-2 draw when Holly Hunt scored in the last minute to deny newly promoted Beeston the win in Nottingham after Lily Owsley started a second half comeback after Birmingham trailed 2-0 at half time.

The following week, goals from Jo Turnbull and Lauren Hunt earned a 2-1 home win over Slough and last week, Amy Costello and Lily Walker scored in a 2-2 home draw with Buckingham.

In other Premier Division action, Holcombe have a Kent derby at home to Canterbury on Saturday night, East Grinstead visit Slough, Buckingham are at home to Bowdon Hightown and Beeston host Clifton Robinsons.
