Scotland Men, including Surbiton’s Nick Parkes in their starting lineup, lost out to Gaelic rivals, Ireland, 4-2 in their opening match at the FIH Series Finals in Le Touquet, France on Saturday.
Parkes also captained the squad which fell behind in the second minute, Eugene Magee putting Ireland ahead from open play,
Scotland were back on level terms five minutes later as Duncan Riddell converted a penalty corner.
Two minutes before the end of the first quarter, Ireland’s lead was restored by Shane O’Donoghue, also from a penalty corner.
The second quarter was goalless but five minutes into the second half, Magee extended the Irish lead from open play.
A minute later, Kenny Bain’s penalty corner conversion reduced the deficit to 3-2, but Michael Robson’s goal in the 40th minute proved to be the last as Ireland won 4-2.
The other two teams in Pool A are Egypt and Singapore.
