Great Britain’s Men battled with Germany to draw 5-5 in the final match of GB’s European Tour in Cologne on Friday morning.

The goal fest started in the first minute when Surbiton’s Alan Forsyth opened the scoring from open play. Christopher Rühr levelled seven minutes later, before Chris Griffiths restored Team GB’s lead in the 20th minute.

Germany fought back to lead 3-2 with two goals in as many minutes, Niklas Bruns equalising in the 25th minute and Mats Grambusch converting a penalty corner a minute later.

Incredibly, Great Britain repaid the compliment to lead 4-3 at half time, former Surbiton player Liam Ansell scoring in the 28th and 29th minutes.

Germany were back level within a minute of the start of the third quarter through Bruns before the scoring quietened down until a dramatic final five minutes.

Surbiton’s Luke Taylor put GB ahead from a penalty corner in the 55th minute, only for Mathias Müller to level dramatically in the last minute, also from a penalty corner.

Surbiton goalkeeper, Harry Gibson replaced George Pinner in the GB goal at the start of the second half, Taylor coming on as a sixth minute substitute.

Alan Forsyth and Brendan Creed were both in the GB starting lineup.
