Surbiton’s Ella Burnley, Emily Leeson and Alice Grainger were in the Mercia Lynx squad which won the Under-15 Girls tournament at the Futures Cup at Oaklands College, St. Albans on Saturday. Burnley captained the team which beat Pennine Pumas 2-0 in the final.
Wessex Leopards needed a shootout to beat Saxon Tigers 3-1 after a 1-1 draw in the third place playoff. Surbiton’s Alice Klugman equalised for Leopards from open play after Tigers took the lead. Klugman was unlucky not to score in the shootout but Surbiton’s Raph Robeson was in the Wessex goal to help her team to third place.
Caledonian Cougars beat Celtic Jaguars 3-0 to claim fifth place.
In the Under-15 Boys tournament, Surbiton’s Thomas Smith was a member of the champion Wessex Leopards squad which beat Pennine Pumas 4-2 in the final. Former Surbiton player, Xavier Teyletche, now at Repton was in the Pumas squad.
Mercia Lynx just missed out on third place, going down 1-0 to Saxon Tigers. Celtic Jaguars beat Caledonian Cougars 4-3 in a thrilling fifth place playoff.
