Any fears that England Under-21 men had of being relegated to the second tier of European hockey were ended by a convincing 7-1 win over Ireland.
Former Surbiton player, Will Calnan added another four goals, with Nick Page, Peter Scott with another former Surbiton player, Eddie Way also on target.
Sam Grace scored Ireland’s consolation.
Austria beat Portugal 13-0 in the other Pool C game. The result confirmed Portugal’s relegation with Ireland looking likely to join them unless they can also get a big win over Portugal and England hand Austria a heavy defeat on Sunday.
