England Men fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to draw with Ireland in their opening match of the Four Nations Invitational Tournament in Barcelona on Thursday.
Ireland led 2-0 after Benjamin Walker opened the scoring in the fifth minute from open goal and Shane O’Donoghue converted a penalty corner in the 17th minute.
Will Calnan pulled a goal back from open play in the 20th minute and with nine minutes to play, Sam Ward’s penalty corner levelled the score at 2-2.
However, Ireland immediately retook the lead in the 52nd minute through Daragh Walsh’s open play goal and England had to wait until the dying seconds to secure a point thanks to Mark Gleghorne’s open play effort.
Surbiton’s Tom Sorsby came on as a third minute substitute with James Gall following two minutes later.
