England Men suffered their second defeat at the Four Nations Tournament in Valencia on Tuesday, going down 2-1 to the Netherlands.
Both teams were looking for their first points of the tournament, England having lost to Ireland 2-1 and the Netherlands losing to hosts Spain, also by a 2-1 scoreline on Monday.
Thierry Brinkman gave the Dutch a thirteenth minute lead, but with twelve minutes remaining, Barry Middleton equalised for England. The winning goal came in the 54th minute, Jeroen Hertzberger scoring the third open play goal of the match with Ian Sloan in the sin-bin after being shown a yellow card.
Of Surbiton’s six representatives, only Brendan Creed and David Goodfield were in the English starting line-up with Harry Gibson, Luke Taylor, James Gall and Zach Wallace all coming on from the subs bench.
After a rest day on Wednesday, England face Spain at 5.30 pm GMT on Thursday (1 November).
