Surbiton Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Emily Rowlands is Surbiton Ladies’ fourth signing in advance of the 2018-19 season.
Rowlands, a 23 year old defender, joins Surbiton from fellow Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division club, Buckingham.
Rowlands was first registered to play in the IWHL with Loughborough Students in 2014. She subsequently spent one season at St. Albans before transferring to Buckingham for the 2017-18 season, helping the newly-promoted club to a record fourth place finish and a place in the playoffs where they lost 3-0 to Surbiton.
Rowlands is a current member of the Welsh senior squad, having previously represented her country at both Under-18 and Under-21 level. She made her senior debut against Scotland in 2017 and played in the 2017 EuroHockey Championship II on home turf in Cardiff where Wales finished fourth.
On the prospect of joining Surbiton, Rowlands said, “I’m really looking forward to joining Surbiton. The squad is full of outstanding players and I know that training and playing with the girls will further develop me as a player.”
Surbiton Head Coach, Brett Garrard said, “Emily is a talented defender with great potential. Her attributes will further enhance the strength of our squad and I am looking forward to working with her.”
