Canada Men including Surbiton’s Richard Hildreth, reached the Pan American Cup final in Lancaster, USA after knocking out the hosts 4-3 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time on Thursday night.

Both goals came from penalty corners, Gordon Johnston giving Canada an eighth minute lead only for Paul Singh to equalise for the United States six minutes later.

Johnston also scored for Canada in the shootout with Keegan Pereira, Balraj Panesar and Floris van Son also successful, Sukhi Panesar failed to score from Canada’s third attempt.

Pat Harris scored from the United States’ first attempt before Deegan Huisman and Ajai Dhadwal, the United States captain failed with the second and third attempts. Tyler Sundeen and Aki Kaeppler both scored but it wasn’t enough.

Hildreth was in Canada’s starting line-up.

Canada will meet Argentina in the final at 10.45 pm on Saturday (BST). Argentina beat Trinidad & Tobago 8-1 in the first semi-final.
