Australia beat England 2-1 in the final of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia as England just missed out on cup glory.
England had lost 4-1 to Australia in the round-robin tournament seven days earlier but the final was much closer with the first half goalless.
Blake Govers broke the deadlock for the Kookaburras in the 38th minute from a penalty corner, but Australia had to wait until seven minutes from time to double their lead, again from a penalty corner conversion, this time from Lachlan Sharp.
Sam Ward gave Australia a few nervous moments when he pulled a goal back in the 54th minute, but England couldn’t find the equaliser and had to settle for silver.
Surbiton goalkeeper Harry Gibson was in the England starting lineup together with David Goodfield and Brendan Creed. James Gall came on as a third minute substitute.
